Filabot Airpath Filament Cooler

Forced-convection filament cooling for stable diameter

By Filabot

The Filabot Airpath is a compact forced-convection cooler that stabilizes filament the moment it leaves your extruder. It sits between the extruder and the Spooler, tightening diameter control and allowing higher line speeds—especially with higher-temperature polymers.

  • Six high-velocity fans rapidly pull heat from fresh filament
  • Front-panel speed knob with digital readout for repeatable setups
  • Magnetic filament guides keep the strand centered
  • Quiet (≈50 dB) and compact: 24 × 7.25 × 3.5 in, 9 lb
  • Universal 110/220 VAC input; 3-year warranty
  • Works with the Filabot EX3, EX6 Standard and EX6 Industrial

Buy the Filabot Airpath: a quiet six-fan forced-convection filament cooler with variable speed and digital readout. Sits between a Filabot EX3 or EX6 extruder and the Spooler to stabilize diameter and allow higher line speeds. 3-year warranty.

Controlled cooling for consistent filament

Cooling capacity is the hidden limit in most filament-making setups. The Airpath gives the strand a repeatable, controlled cooling path so it reaches the ideal temperature before it hits the Spooler, delivering clean, consistent winding and stable diameter. A front-panel speed control with a built-in readout lets you record and repeat the airflow that works for each material. Engineered for labs and production benches alike, it runs quietly (about 50 dB at max) and packs a bench-friendly footprint.

Key features

  • Forced-convection cooling — six high-velocity fans rapidly pull heat from freshly extruded filament for stable diameter and higher line speeds.
  • Variable fan-speed control — front-panel knob with digital power/speed readout for repeatable setups.
  • Magnetic filament guides — top-mounted guide magnets keep filament centered as it traverses the cooling path.
  • Quiet, lab-friendly operation — approximately 50 dB at max speed.
  • Universal power input — 110/220 VAC, 50/60 Hz.
  • Compact footprint — 24 × 7.25 × 3.5 in and about 9 lb; fits neatly between your extruder and spooler.

Part of the Filabot Modular Ecosystem

Every Filabot machine is a building block. The equipment is modular, so you can start with the workflow you need today and expand later—adding cooling, measurement, spooling, pelletizing or shredding—without replacing what you already own. All units are bench-top sized and run on standard 110 V single-phase power (no 3-phase required), so a complete line fits comfortably next to your 3D printers.

Filabot modular filament-making and recycling workflow: Reclaimer, EX3/EX6 extruder, Airpath, Spooler, Pelletizer

The Airpath covers the Cool stage and is part of every Filabot bundle. How it combines with the rest of the line:

  • Place it directly after the EX3 Filament Extruder, EX6 Standard Filament Extruder or EX6 Industrial Filament Extruder nozzle.
  • Feed the cooled strand into the Spooler, which pulls the filament through the Airpath at a controlled speed and winds it onto the spool.
  • Mount the Filameasure on the Spooler to verify that the cooled filament is holding diameter.
  • Running PEEK, ULTEM, nylon or other high-temperature polymers, or pushing the EX6 to full output? Add a second Airpath in series for extra cooling length.
  • For the highest production rates, Filabot also offers a Waterbath cooling system—contact us for a quote.
Product Stage Role in the line
Reclaimer Reclaim Two-stage shredder + granulator turns failed prints and scrap into extrudable granulate.
EX3 Filament Extruder Extrude Accessible, compact extruder for education, makerspaces, recycling and early-stage material development.
EX6 Standard Filament Extruder Extrude Professional 24:1 extruder with four PID heat zones and 4+ kg/hr output for R&D and production.
EX6 Industrial Filament Extruder Extrude EX6 with nitrided barrel and screw for abrasive, filled and reinforced compounds.
Airpath Filament Cooler (this product) Cool Forced-convection cooling that stabilizes filament diameter before it reaches the Spooler.
Filameasure Measure Inline diameter gauge with Filalogger data logging; mounts to the Spooler.
Spooler Spool Pulls, traverses and winds finished filament onto 0.5 kg / 1 kg spools.
Pelletizer Pelletize Chops filament into uniform pellets for re-extrusion, compounding or injection molding.

Get the Quality Filament You Need

Nothing will impact your 3D printing results like the kind of filament you use. Good filament is highly consistent in diameter, is wound evenly onto the spool with just the right amount of tension, and will not tangle when being unwound. 3D Universe offers a wide range of high-quality filaments to choose from.
