Buy the Filabot EX6 Standard Filament Extruder: removable 24:1 screw, four PID heat zones to 425°C and over 4.5 kg/hr PLA output. Develop custom polymers and produce 1.75mm or 2.85mm filament in-house. Pairs with Filabot Airpath, Spooler, Filameasure, Pelletizer and Reclaimer.

From material exploration to filament production

The EX6 is not simply a larger EX3. Its long 24:1 L/D screw gives the polymer a gentle, thorough melt with excellent mixing, four independently controlled heat zones let you shape a material-specific thermal profile, and higher output means you move from formulation to a usable spool sooner—and keep up when demand grows. Screws can be removed in minutes for cleaning or swapped for other profiles to match the processing requirements of each polymer, so screw design itself becomes a variable you can test and optimize.

Key features

  • Speed control — an automatic variable-voltage module regulates screw RPM precisely (0–100 RPM) to dial in residence time, throughput and consistency.
  • Multi-zone temperature control — three PID-controlled barrel zones plus a PID-controlled feed-throat zone match any thermal profile and melt window.
  • Thermal break system — the internal arrangement of heaters and fans isolates individual zones and eliminates heat creep.
  • Removable screw — easy, thorough cleaning and the ability to switch screw type (several profiles available) to match polymer demands.
  • Analog voltage & amperage meters — insight into extruder load, performance and filament consistency.
  • Improved hopper — slide gate assists loading and unloading of material.
  • Industrial throughput — more than 10 lb (4.5 kg) per hour of PLA at the nozzle, with a target of a quality 1 kg spool in under 30 minutes when material and setup permit.

Who it's for

  • Polymer and material developers who need rapid formulation cycles and control over every process variable.
  • Universities and research institutes that need one flexible, visible platform for changing projects, materials and users.
  • Specialty filament producers and additive manufacturers who want more output, custom products and supply independence.
  • Recycling and circular-manufacturing programs converting production scrap into repeatable filament.
  • Working with abrasive, glass- or carbon-filled compounds as a routine part of your program? Choose the EX6 Industrial Filament Extruder instead.

Fast payback. A school, makerspace or print farm that recycles roughly 2,000 kg of material a year can pay back a complete Filabot system in under six months versus buying new filament—while teaching hands-on polymer science along the way.

Part of the Filabot Modular Ecosystem

Every Filabot machine is a building block. The equipment is modular, so you can start with the workflow you need today and expand later—adding cooling, measurement, spooling, pelletizing or shredding—without replacing what you already own. All units are bench-top sized and run on standard 110 V single-phase power (no 3-phase required), so a complete line fits comfortably next to your 3D printers.

Filabot modular filament-making and recycling workflow: Reclaimer, EX3/EX6 extruder, Airpath, Spooler, Pelletizer

The EX6 covers the Extrude stage. Complete the line:

  • Airpath Filament Cooler — forced-convection cooling that stabilizes diameter and allows higher line speeds (add a second Airpath for high-temperature polymers).
  • Spooler — pull, traverse and wind onto 0.5 kg / 1 kg spools; adjustable puller speed fine-tunes diameter.
  • Filameasure — live inline diameter measurement with Filalogger logging, mounted on the Spooler.
  • Pelletizer — turn filament into uniform pellets for re-extrusion, compounding or injection molding.
  • Reclaimer — shred failed prints and scrap into granulate the EX6 can process.
  • Already own an EX3 Filament Extruder? The EX6 drops into the same line; all of your downstream Filabot equipment carries over.
Product Stage Role in the line
Reclaimer Reclaim Two-stage shredder + granulator turns failed prints and scrap into extrudable granulate.
EX3 Filament Extruder Extrude Accessible, compact extruder for education, makerspaces, recycling and early-stage material development.
EX6 Standard Filament Extruder (this product) Extrude Professional 24:1 extruder with four PID heat zones and 4+ kg/hr output for R&D and production.
EX6 Industrial Filament Extruder Extrude EX6 with nitrided barrel and screw for abrasive, filled and reinforced compounds.
Airpath Filament Cooler Cool Forced-convection cooling that stabilizes filament diameter before it reaches the Spooler.
Filameasure Measure Inline diameter gauge with Filalogger data logging; mounts to the Spooler.
Spooler Spool Pulls, traverses and winds finished filament onto 0.5 kg / 1 kg spools.
Pelletizer Pelletize Chops filament into uniform pellets for re-extrusion, compounding or injection molding.

Get the Quality Filament You Need

Nothing will impact your 3D printing results like the kind of filament you use. Good filament is highly consistent in diameter, is wound evenly onto the spool with just the right amount of tension, and will not tangle when being unwound. 3D Universe offers a wide range of high-quality filaments to choose from.
