Filabot Reclaimer - Plastic Shredder & Granulator

Two-stage shredder + granulator for failed prints and scrap

By Filabot

The Filabot Reclaimer is a two-stage plastics recycler that turns failed prints, purge, supports and scrap into clean, uniform granulate your Filabot extruder can process—on standard single-phase 115 V power, with no 3-phase infrastructure.

  • Top-load shredder breaks parts into chips; granulator refines to extrudable size
  • VFD-driven low-speed, high-torque cutting with jam-sense auto-reverse
  • Hardened A2 / 4140 / 17-4 cutting hardware; reversible fixed blades
  • Start/Stop, safety reset and E-stop interlocks; gas-spring hoppers
  • Material collects in drawstring bags (20 included)
  • Benchtop/floor form factor, 125 lb; 1-year warranty

Buy the Filabot Reclaimer: a two-stage shredder and granulator that turns failed 3D prints and plastic scrap into extrudable granulate on standard 115V single-phase power. Hardened blades, jam-sense auto-reverse, safety interlocks. The first step in a Filabot recycling line.

From scrap bin to feedstock

Every print lab generates waste—failed prints, purge towers, supports, out-of-spec filament. The Reclaimer is where the circular workflow starts. A top-load shredder takes prints and scrap down to chips, then a secondary granulator refines them into clean, uniform granulate ready for the EX3 or EX6 hopper. A VFD-driven drive train provides low-speed, high-torque cutting with jam-sense auto-reverse to keep material moving, and the control panel keeps operation simple with Start/Stop, Safety Reset and emergency-stop interlocks. Built for daily use, it features hardened, serviceable blades, straightforward access for cleaning and adjustments, and gas-spring-assisted hoppers for easy loading. Changeover between materials takes about 10–15 minutes: open the hoppers, vacuum out the remaining shavings, and grind the next material.

Key features

  • Two-stage size reduction — shredder breaks down prints and scrap; granulator refines to final, extrudable chip size.
  • Single-phase power — plugs into standard shop circuits (IEC 320-C14 inlet, up to 1,550 W).
  • Hardened cutting hardware — A2 hardened rotating blades with reversible 0.50" 4140 fixed blades; granulator drum uses 17-4 hardened stainless cutting teeth.
  • Jam detection and automatic reversing — low-speed (35 RPM), high-torque (216 ft-lb) final drive keeps material moving.
  • Shop-friendly form factor — approximately 125 lb for benchtop or floor placement in lab and shop environments; 60–70 dB, so most users locate it with their printers rather than in a classroom.
  • Durable, serviceable design — reversible fixed blades extend life and reduce downtime between maintenance cycles.

Part of the Filabot Modular Ecosystem

Every Filabot machine is a building block. The equipment is modular, so you can start with the workflow you need today and expand later—adding cooling, measurement, spooling, pelletizing or shredding—without replacing what you already own. All units are bench-top sized and run on standard 110 V single-phase power (no 3-phase required), so a complete line fits comfortably next to your 3D printers.

Filabot modular filament-making and recycling workflow: Reclaimer, EX3/EX6 extruder, Airpath, Spooler, Pelletizer

The Reclaimer covers the Reclaim stage and is included in the three Full Recycling Bundles. Filabot's recommended closed-loop workflow:

  1. Reclaim — grind failed prints and scrap in the Reclaimer (keep polymer types separate; colors may be mixed).
  2. Dry — dry the granulate (oven, desiccant or polymer dryer).
  3. Extrude — run the granulate through the EX3 Filament Extruder, EX6 Standard Filament Extruder or EX6 Industrial Filament Extruder with the Airpath Filament Cooler and Spooler.
  4. Pelletize — chop the first-pass strand into uniform pellets with the Pelletizer.
  5. Extrude to final filament — re-extrude the pellets into print-ready filament and verify diameter with the Filameasure.

Filabot research shows PLA can be recycled this way many times over—blending in 20–50% virgin pellets extends it further.

Product Stage Role in the line
Reclaimer (this product) Reclaim Two-stage shredder + granulator turns failed prints and scrap into extrudable granulate.
EX3 Filament Extruder Extrude Accessible, compact extruder for education, makerspaces, recycling and early-stage material development.
EX6 Standard Filament Extruder Extrude Professional 24:1 extruder with four PID heat zones and 4+ kg/hr output for R&D and production.
EX6 Industrial Filament Extruder Extrude EX6 with nitrided barrel and screw for abrasive, filled and reinforced compounds.
Airpath Filament Cooler Cool Forced-convection cooling that stabilizes filament diameter before it reaches the Spooler.
Filameasure Measure Inline diameter gauge with Filalogger data logging; mounts to the Spooler.
Spooler Spool Pulls, traverses and winds finished filament onto 0.5 kg / 1 kg spools.
Pelletizer Pelletize Chops filament into uniform pellets for re-extrusion, compounding or injection molding.

Get the Quality Filament You Need

Nothing will impact your 3D printing results like the kind of filament you use. Good filament is highly consistent in diameter, is wound evenly onto the spool with just the right amount of tension, and will not tangle when being unwound. 3D Universe offers a wide range of high-quality filaments to choose from.
