October 14, 2026
Today Formlabs is launching something we have been waiting a long time to see: a professional-grade resin 3D printer that almost anyone can afford. Meet Form Studio 1 — a $699 masked SLA printer built on the same print-engine DNA as the Form 4, paired with a brand-new family of low-cost, low-odor Alpha Resins, an all-in-one Form Studio Wash+Cure, and a VOC Extractor that makes the whole system the first and only resin 3D printing setup certified UL GREENGUARD Gold for low chemical emissions.
Everything is available to order from 3D Universe starting today. Here is what is new, who it is for, and why we think it matters.

Form Studio 1: pro resin printing for anyone
Form Studio 1 is the first affordable, professional-grade resin 3D printer with a powerful, long-lasting print engine and an open platform. Print most parts in under two hours with razor-sharp detail and a workflow that is safe, reliable, and mess-free from start to finish.
- Blazing fast. A custom lens array and 28 LEDs deliver a uniform, highly collimated 6 mW/cm² light field. Release Texture V2 and a flexible film tank cut peel forces, so most prints finish in under two hours and Alpha Fast Resin prints at up to 130 mm/hr.
- Amazing parts. 35 µm pixels with pretuned anti-aliasing capture subpixel detail, light-touch supports leave smooth surfaces, and every material setting holds ±0.15% XY tolerance so assemblies fit together as designed.
- Safe to use anywhere. Low-odor Alpha Resins printed on Form Studio 1 with the VOC Extractor are UL GREENGUARD Gold certified — the standard used for furniture, nurseries, and schools. Liquid resin scores as a non-skin irritant (OECD 439), and post-processed parts meet ISO 10993 for long-term skin contact.
- Reliable. 98% print success with validated settings for every material. Intelligent control systems monitor resin temperature, resin level, print forces, and leveling, and an integrated camera lets you check on prints from the Form Mobile App.
- Open. Open Material Mode is included at no charge, so you can print third-party 405 nm resins alongside validated Formlabs materials.

Two packages, optional Pro Service Plans
Every Form Studio 1 ships with the printer, a Form Studio 1 Resin Tank, Open Material Mode, and a one-year warranty. Choose the Basic Package ($699) with the standard Build Platform, or the Flex Package ($749) with the quick-release Build Platform Flex, which pops parts free with a quick flex and no scraping. Add a Form Studio 1 Pro Service Plan (1 year for $99, 3 years for $199) for accidental damage coverage and phone support.
First units are expected to ship in late November to December 2026. Orders are fulfilled in the order they are received.
Alpha Resins: a new generation of general purpose resins
Alpha Resins were developed specifically for Form Studio 1, and they change the economics of resin printing: a 1 L cartridge of Alpha Grey, White, Black, or Clear is $36, Alpha Model is $42, and Alpha Fast is $29 — less than half the price of the equivalent Form 4 materials. The family uses low-odor components, prints in the standard Form Studio 1 Resin Tank, and is compatible with IPA and Resin Washing Solution.

- Alpha Model Resin ($42) — a deep, fully matte, neutral surface that captures every detail, down to the finest crevices and textures. Thin features flex instead of snapping, so miniatures and scale models survive painting, transport, and drops. 50 and 30 µm settings.
- Alpha Fast Resin ($29) — print speeds up to 130 mm/hr for iterative prototypes in minutes, or the entire build volume in under two hours. 46 MPa tensile strength, 34% elongation at break.
- Alpha Clear Resin ($36) — optically clear and color-neutral, more transparent than Clear Resin V5, for enclosures, lighting prototypes, and molds with a surface quality that rivals acrylic.
- Alpha Grey, Alpha White, and Alpha Black Resin ($36 each) — versatile general purpose resins with fine detail and a rich, matte finish that exceed the strength and toughness of comparable ABS-like resins.
- Tough 1500 Resin V2 (Form Studio 1) ($79) — polypropylene-like strength and toughness for functional prototypes, jigs, and fixtures. Requires the Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro.

Note: Alpha Resins are supported only on Form Studio 1. Form 4 Series printers continue to use the General Purpose V5 resins.
The complete Form Studio 1 ecosystem

Form Studio Wash+Cure ($199) — an all-in-one, compact post-processing unit. Agitate parts in IPA or alternative solvents, raise the basket to air dry, then cure with 405 nm light in the same unit. Default 5-minute wash and cure cycles are tuned for Alpha Resins, and the printer tells you the recommended times after every print. Add the Rinse Bucket ($59) for a dedicated two-stage wash.
VOC Extractor ($179) — a compact add-on with two carbon filters (about 330 print hours per set) and three fan speeds that reduces VOC levels while you print. It is the piece that completes the UL GREENGUARD Gold certification with Alpha Resins, and it also fits Form 4 and Form 4B.
Consumables and accessories — the Form Studio 1 Resin Tank ($55) for Alpha Resins, the Resin Tank Pro ($79) for Tough 1500 V2 and third-party resins, a spare Build Platform ($65) or Build Platform Flex ($139), and the Build Platform Jig ($35) for hands-free part removal.
Who is Form Studio 1 for?

- Makers, hobbyists, and tabletop gamers who want Formlabs reliability and detail without the Form 4 price tag — and who want to print in the same room they work and live in.
- Engineers and product designers who need a quick, accurate desk-side prototyper, with Alpha Fast for iteration and Tough 1500 V2 for functional parts.
- Educators looking for a classroom-safe resin printer: GREENGUARD Gold certification, skin-safe post-processed parts, and a workflow students learn in about 10 minutes.
- Form 4 owners who want to add low-cost capacity for general purpose parts while keeping the Form 4 for engineering and biocompatible materials.
Form Studio 1 vs. Form 4
Form Studio 1 is not a replacement for Form 4. Form 4 runs a higher-powered 16 mW/cm² backlight, supports 23+ engineering materials including biocompatible options on Form 4B, has a resin mixer, and is the better fit for heavy Tough-resin workloads and production. Form Studio 1 trades some of that for a $699 price, a taller build volume, included Open Material Mode, and a materials library purpose-built for low cost and low odor. Many shops will end up running both.
