Large medical devices and anatomical replicas at full scale

3D print adult patient-specific anatomy at 1:1 scale or large medical devices in one build with the Form 3BL, a large-format 3D printer developed for medical and dental professionals. Built on Formlabs' Low Force Stereolithography (LFS)™ technology, the Form 3BL is compatible with the majority of the Formlabs SLA materials library, including biocompatible, sterilizable materials manufactured in an ISO 13485 certified facility. It raises the bar for dependable, high-production dental and medical 3D printing, letting you print high-quality parts and biocompatible appliances in bulk.

Why choose Form 3BL?

  • Life-sized 3D prints — a 33.5 × 20 × 32 cm (13.2 × 7.9 × 12.6 in) build volume with a 19.4″ diagonal prints adult femurs, pelvic bones, skulls, and more at 1:1 scale.
  • On-demand printing — from time-sensitive point of care printing to groundbreaking medical devices, work faster and with full control with a versatile large format 3D printer in house.
  • Validated workflows — the Form 3BL has been validated in FDA-cleared workflows and is compatible with a wide range of biocompatible, sterilizable materials.
  • Biocompatible materials — 37 industry-leading Formlabs materials, including 14 biocompatible resins, or third-party materials using Open Material Mode.
  • Incredible part quality — 25 µm XY resolution and two 250 mW lasers resolve fine details down to the micron level with a smooth surface finish.

What could you print?

The Form 3BL is large enough to print full size anatomy and medical devices in a single build. From ventilator enclosures to a two-part scoliotic rib cage, a cranium, or an adult humerus, the Form 3BL brings full-scale medical 3D printing in house. One example part from Minnetronix, printed in Grey Resin, took 65 hours with a print cost of about $86.

Form 3BL is ideal for:

  • Biocompatible large parts — large parts requiring biocompatibility and sterilization compatibility.
  • Anatomical models — full-size anatomical models at 1:1 scale, including pediatric and adult anatomy.
  • Medical devices — medical device prototypes, jigs, fixtures, assemblies, and end-use parts.
  • Surgical tools — surgeon-specific or patient-specific surgical tools.
  • Surgical planning — surgical planning models for diagnostic use in FDA-cleared workflows.
  • Research and development — large-format R&D with advanced materials.

Print time and cost vary based on part geometry, material, layout, and orientation.

Intuitive and efficient

Seamlessly integrate the Form 3BL into your existing clinical workflows — no specialized technicians required. With automatic resin dispensing, simple print preparation software, and a thoughtfully designed interface, the Form 3BL is designed for efficiency.

  • Automatic resin dispensing — the printer dispenses resin as parts print, so you can walk away once the job starts.
  • Simple print preparation — tested over millions of prints, free PreForm software automatically suggests optimal orientation, supports, and layout to save time during print setup.
  • Thoughtfully designed interface — an interactive touchscreen interface reduces error and the need for constant monitoring.

Always on call

The Form 3BL works around the clock with minimal supervision required. With compatibility with the Formlabs SLA materials library, sensors that maintain ideal print conditions, and remote printing, the Form 3BL helps you meet critical deadlines — even for trauma surgery. Achieve multicolor parts using various techniques.
