Big Secret | 3D Universe Untethered Episode 12

Join Co-hosts Jeremy Simon and Jen Owen of 3D Universe as we chat with laser cutter artists Jason Lefton and Justin Ensley of Big Secret. We first discovered their work when we put together a blog post featuring interesting small businesses that were using laser cutters. Learn how their business designs and fabricates keepsakes for clients like HBO, Etsy, Nike, Jack Daniels, and many others, using a wide variety of materials such as wood, paper, acrylic, glass, metal, and fabric.

Hear more about their experimentation with laser cutting and etching on found, recycled, and non-traditional materials such as food, bones, leaves, an ostrich egg, film stock, guitars, pumpkins, shoes, and much more…yes, even pancakes!

The team there at Big Secret not only create incredible pieces of artwork for their clients but when the COVID-19 pandemic hit last year, they jumped right in feet first to help.

“We cut PPE for first-line responders and we laser cut hundreds of face shields and 15 or 20 thousand pieces of fabric for a local nonprofit down the street to sew together into masks. We were lucky to be able to have a skill set to be able to provide something like that during the beginning of the pandemic.”
