The UltiMaker S3 3D printer takes many of the best features from the UltiMaker S5 and combines them into a smaller, more budget-friendly device. The UltiMaker S3 delivers the same high-quality, composite-ready dual extrusion, with the same market-leading reliability and ease of use – just with a smaller build volume (230 x 190 x 200 mm or 9.1 x 7.4 x 7.9 inches).
Key features include:
From the ground up, the Ultimaker S3 has been meticulously crafted to live up to the renowned print quality associated with Ultimaker's S-line of 3D printers. Inside the Ultimaker S3, you'll discover a host of exceptional features:

The Ultimaker S3 impressively crams an array of features into its compact form, offering a powerhouse of 3D printing capabilities in a remarkably small footprint:
Minimize time spent configuring your print jobs by leveraging Ultimaker's integrated materials. The Ultimaker S3 automatically detects Ultimaker NFC-enabled filament. And combined with Ultimaker Cura's material profiles, your print jobs are automatically loaded with optimized settings specific to your selected filament.
There's a wide range of Ultimaker-brand materials to choose from: Tough PLA, PLA, Nylon, ABS, CPE, CPE+, Polycarbonate, TPU 95A, Polypropylene, PVA, and Breakaway. Additionally, as with any Ultimaker 3D printer, you’re free to use any brand and type of material you wish. The Ultimaker S3 can handle any 2.85mm materials that extrude up to 280C.
In this video, 3D Universe gives you an overview of the Ultimaker S3. Inside an efficiently small footprint suitable for any desk, the Ultimaker S3 delivers composite-ready dual extrusion that you can rely on. And Ultimaker has packed it full of the latest, market-leading technology, making it is as easy-to-use as it is powerful.
In this video, 3D Universe shows you the unboxing and initial set up of the Ultimaker S3.
Like other Ultimaker printers, the S3 is fully assembled and ready-to-use right out of the box. Setup only takes a few minutes, so you'll be printing in no time!
OK, let's have some fun! In this video, join Jen Owen, Creative Director at 3D Universe, as she unboxes and sets up a new Ultimaker S3, having never set up her own 3D printer before. If you're new to 3D printing and thinking of getting an Ultimaker S3 for your first printer, this video will give you a good sense of what to expect.
The UltiMaker S3 uses 2.85mm (often referred to as 3mm) filament diameter. This is the standard filament size for all brand UltiMaker 3D printers. Always ensure you're using the correct filament diameter for your printer to prevent issues during printing.
The UltiMaker S3 uses swappable print cores, which are very easy to change. These print cores are available in different configurations as follows:
The UltiMaker S3 can print all of UltiMaker's materials and many from the Marketplace. However, some third-party materials may need specific settings or print cores. Always check material specifications and use recommended settings from the UltiMaker Marketplace or the material manufacturer.
While UltiMaker S3 is optimized for use with UltiMaker Cura slicing software, it is compatible with other slicing software options. However, for the best user experience and print quality, using UltiMaker Cura is recommended.

Nothing will impact your 3D printing results like the kind of filament you use. Good filament is highly consistent in diameter, is wound evenly onto the spool with just the right amount of tension, and will not tangle when being unwound. 3D Universe offers a wide range of high-quality filaments to choose from.
