Big parts, blazing fast

Form 4L is a blazing fast, large-format masked SLA (MSLA) resin 3D printer that combines an industry-leading materials library with a reliable, accurate print engine. Built on the same Low Force Display™ (LFD) technology as Form 4, it offers 4.6× the build volume — 24.2 liters — and completes large prints in under 6 hours. Solve big problems with large-scale parts, or print multiple parts in one job to accelerate product development or keep production running. Turn your biggest ideas into reality faster than ever with easy workflows, leading reliability, and stunning part quality.

The Formlabs Form 4L large-format resin 3D printer

Why choose Form 4L?

  • Big parts — a 35.3 × 19.6 × 35.0 cm (13.9 × 7.7 × 13.8 in) build volume, 4.6× larger than Form 4, for full-scale prototypes, molds, fixtures, and multi-part batches.
  • Blazing fast — large prints in under 6 hours with a maximum print speed of 80 mm/hour, so parts that used to print overnight are ready the same day.
  • Stunning parts — ±0.15% XY dimensional tolerances, 46 µm pixel size, and pre-tuned anti-aliasing produce parts that always fit.
  • Versatile — 19 industry-leading Formlabs materials spanning tough, rigid, flame retardant, general purpose, silicone, elastic, and ceramic resins, plus third-party 405 nm resins via Open Material Mode.
  • Reliable — validated print settings, intelligent control systems, re-engineered consumables, factory calibration, and remote monitoring make it large-format 3D printing you can depend on.
  • Intuitive — anyone can learn the full print workflow in about 15 minutes with PreForm's one-click print setup and no-hassle cartridges and tanks.

Solve big problems with large-scale parts

With a 24.2 liter build volume and 692 cm² (107 in²) build area, Form 4L prints parts that simply don't fit on a desktop printer — laptop chassis, steering wheel ergonomic models, blow molds, compression molds, and full-size seat prototypes. And because LFD technology cures an entire layer at once, you can fill the platform with multiple parts in a single job without a meaningful increase in print time.

  • Build volume — 353 × 196 × 350 mm (13.9 × 7.7 × 13.8 in), 24.2 L, compared with 200 × 125 × 210 mm (5.2 L) on Form 4.
  • One part or many — print a single large-scale part, or batch multiple parts in one job to accelerate product development or keep production running.
  • Two resin cartridges — dual next-generation cartridges keep large jobs supplied with automatic resin handling.

Speed at scale: large prints in under 6 hours

Form 4L's Backlight Unit generates a uniform area projection of ultra-high-power light using 145 LEDs and collimating lenses, curing resin quickly and precisely anywhere on the build platform. Combined with the Light Processing Unit 4L, a low-force release texture, a flexible-film resin tank, and automatic resin handling, it delivers blazing fast print speeds with excellent print quality and accuracy. In Formlabs' benchmark tests, Form 4L finished large parts several times faster than Form 3L and leading FDM printers:

  • Lacrosse head — 4 h 54 min on Form 4L vs. 21 h 57 min on Form 3L and 14 h 24 min on a leading FDM printer.
  • Radio Flyer seat prototype — 2 h 37 min on Form 4L vs. 21 h 6 min on Form 3L; the part doesn't fit on a leading FDM printer.
  • Spacecraft display holders — 4 h 12 min on Form 4L vs. 22 h 52 min on Form 3L and 12 h 48 min on a leading FDM printer.
  • Golf training club assembly — 5 h 50 min on Form 4L vs. 17 h 17 min on Form 3L and 10 h 38 min on a leading FDM printer.
  • Radio Flyer scooter cover — 4 h 58 min on Form 4L vs. 18 h 47 min on Form 3L and 12 h 43 min on a leading FDM printer.

Stunning parts that always fit

Form 4L delivers the sharpest details, smoothest surfaces, and most accurate assemblies of any Formlabs large-format printer — from laptop chassis and ESD-safe PCB trays to outsole compression molds and impeller casting patterns.

  • Sharpest details — highly collimated light and 46 µm pixel size with pre-tuned anti-aliasing for sub-pixel resolution.
  • Smoothest surfaces — lower peel forces and Light Touch Supports leave minimal marks and a clean surface finish.
  • Most accurate assemblies — ±0.15% XY dimensional tolerances so assemblies always fit.

Tackle any problem with industry-leading materials

Form 4L supports 19 Formlabs resins — tough, rigid, flame retardant, general purpose, silicone, elastic, and ceramic — with more new materials in development. Open Material Mode (included in the Form 4L Premium Package, or sold separately) unlocks third-party 405 nm photopolymer resins for even more flexibility. Formlabs optimization engineers put hundreds of printed parts to the test to ensure each material performs to the most reliable standards, right out of the box.

Silicone 40A Resin parts printed on a Formlabs printer

  • Tough — impact-resistant, PP-like and ABS-like resins such as Tough 1500 Resin for pre-production validation and carbon fiber molds.
  • Rigid & High Temp — stiff, temperature-resistant resins for rapid tooling, fixtures, and load-bearing parts.
  • General Purpose — fast, affordable resins like Clear Resin and Fast Model Resin for everyday prototyping and large setup parts.
  • Flame Retardant, Silicone, Elastic — specialty resins for silicone gaskets, seals, and self-extinguishing parts.
  • Ceramic — for high-temperature applications and casting patterns.

Unmatched reliability. A large-format resin 3D printer you can depend on.

Form 4L is engineered for dependable large-format printing. Six upgraded sensors precisely control resin temperature, resin level, print forces, and print status, and every printer is factory calibrated so you get consistent results from the first print. As Hasbro's rapid prototyping engineer put it: “I really appreciate the reliability paired with the speed. It's not one or the other, like many other tools.”

  • Validated print settings — every Formlabs material ships with tuned, tested print settings.
  • Intelligent control systems — high-speed conduction resin heating with infrared temperature sensing, ultrasonic resin level sensing, a Z-axis force sensor, resin cartridge load cells, and a printer leveling sensor.
  • Re-engineered consumables — the Form 4L Resin Tank is rated for 75,000+ layers with any Formlabs material (roughly 190 average-height prints), and next-generation cartridges fill 5–10× faster with 63% less waste.
  • Factory calibration — each printer is calibrated before it ships for consistent, accurate results.
  • Remote monitoring — an integrated 5 MP camera provides live views, timelapses, and print history through Dashboard, and can be easily disabled, covered, or removed.

So intuitive that anyone can learn to print in 15 minutes

Form 4L uses the same free PreForm print preparation software and cloud-based Dashboard as the rest of the Form 4 Series, so the workflow is simple enough for a new user to learn in four steps.

  1. Import your model and prepare your print — smart auto-orientation, advanced support generation, and live printability checks in free PreForm software.
  2. Load a material and click print — validated print settings, no-hassle cartridges and tanks, and automatic resin dispensing.
  3. Remove, wash, cure — quick-release part removal, automated part cleaning with Form Wash L, and precision post-curing with Form Cure L for peak material properties.
  4. Finish your part — light-touch supports for quick, clean support removal, then optional sanding, coating, or painting.
