Silicon Carbide Filamet™ is available as 1.75mm and 2.85mm filament and as pellets.
Silicon carbide (SiC), also known as carborundum, is a hard chemical compound containing silicon and carbon. A semiconductor, it occurs in nature as the extremely rare mineral moissanite, but has been mass-produced as a powder and crystal since 1893 for use as an abrasive. Grains of silicon carbide can be bonded together by sintering to form very hard ceramics that are widely used in applications requiring high endurance, such as car brakes, car clutches and ceramic plates in bulletproof vests.
Specs: This filament comes in 0.25kg and 0.5kg spools and 1kg bags of pellets. It contains 65.0% - 68.0% silicon carbide and has a density of 1.9g/cc.
High Compatibility: This Filamet™ enables any open-architecture Fused Filament Fabrication 3D printer to produce ceramic objects. Even works in 3D printing pens!
Easy to Print: All you need is an open architecture 3D printer, a 0.6mm hardened steel nozzle, a Filawarmer, and a model to print. Print like regular PLA. Place your spool so that the filament coming off is going straight into the extruder. The flow rate in your slicer may need to be adjusted up to 135%.
Advanced Properties: Filamet™ is less hygroscopic than regular PLA. Filament dryers have adverse affects on Filamet™. Spools should not be dried.
Fully Sinterable Ceramic Filament: Once fired in a sintering furnace, the result is 100% ceramic. Little to no warping occurs during printing. Sintering trials have not been conducted for this product. To partner on development, contact us.
Special Qualities: Very abrasive, microwave concentrator.
Used For: Partner Innovators have used this filament for Cemented carbide tooling research and development.
Eliminate tooling and machining costs for short run manufacturing, prototyping, and one-off ceramic part needs.
Note: All sales final except in cases of defective product.

Nothing will impact your 3D printing results like the kind of filament you use. Good filament is highly consistent in diameter, is wound evenly onto the spool with just the right amount of tension, and will not tangle when being unwound. 3D Universe offers a wide range of high-quality filaments to choose from. We provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all filament we sell. If you have any problems, just send back the unused portion of the spool for a full refund. Check out our filament collection...
