Overview

Magigoo Build Plate Compatibility

Magigoo adhesives work on heated build-plates, with glass surfaces giving the best results. This includes a variety of glass types such as normal glass, borosilicate glass and ceramic glass.

Other common surfaces such as PEI, Buildtak (PC), Garolite, and Kapton tape show similar levels of adhesion to glass build-plates when Magigoo adhesives are used. This is true for the vast majority of 3D printing materials.

The use of Magigoo can also extend the life of your build-plate surface. The adhesive in fact acts as an intermediate layer between the build-plate material and the print.

Master Your Materials

Magigoo will change your 3D printing experience completely! No more failed prints due to warping. No more fighting to get parts off the build plate. With Magioo, even challenging materials stick firmly to the build plate while printing but release easily after the build plate cools.

The Magigoo team has done a great deal of testing and has created some great documentation. Refer to the Magigoo Manual for detailed guidance. Also, refer to this database of all materials that have been tested by the Magigoo team, which includes detailed guidance for each material.

See below for details about all of the different Magigoo types available.

Magigoo Original (50ml or 120ml)

Magigoo is an easy-to-use 3D printing adhesive designed to provide excellent print bed adhesion for a variety of 3D printing materials. Apply Magigoo to your unheated print bed. When the print is finished, wait for the plate to cool down and your prints will pop right off the bed! Magigoo also helps to prevent warping, even with more challenging materials like ABS and ASA.

Key features include:

  • Compatible with ABS, PLA, PETG, HIPS, ASA, and TPU
  • Available in 50ml and 120ml sizes
  • Easy application
  • Easy release
  • Easy cleaning (just use water)
  • No smell
  • Non-toxic
  • No additional tools needed
  • Easy to transport
  • Nicer print finish

Magigoo PA (50ml)

Magigoo PA is designed for professional use, to work exclusively with Polyamide (nylon) filaments. Parts will be relatively easy to remove once the print bed cools. Magigoo residue can be easily cleaned off using a wet cloth.

Nylon filaments prove to be challenging materials for FDM printing due to their lower adhesion to conventional 3D printing build surfaces and their higher tendency to warp. Furthermore, there are several classes of PA filaments, each behaving differently. Magigoo PA is a specialized solution for FDM printing of PA filaments which was developed to work with a wide number of PA types.

Magigoo PC (50ml)

Magigoo PC is designed to work exclusively with polycarbonate type filaments. This adhesive for professional use makes sure prints stick firmly when the print-bed is hot and that the part is easy to remove once it cools. This unique and innovative mechanism means that no tools are needed to remove prints from the bed. They just pop off when the bed cools down.

Magigoo PP (50ml)

Polypropylene is an especially challenging 3D printing material due to its tendency to warp. It normally requires using special adhesion sheets or a layer of clear packing tape applied to the print bed.

Magigoo PP eliminates the need for adhesion sheets or clear packing tape when using polypropylene filament. Parts are relatively easy to remove once the print bed cools, and the Magigoo residue can be easily cleaned off if the included procedure is followed. (See "How to Use Magigoo Adhesives" section below)

Magigoo PP-GF (50ml)

Magigoo PP-GF is designed to work exclusively with glass reinforced polypropylene (PP-GF) filaments. This adhesive makes sure prints stick firmly when the print-bed is hot and that the part is easy to remove once it cools.

Magigoo PP-GF has been designed and tested to work with 30% glass fiber filled Polypropylene.

Magigoo Flex (50ml)

MAGIGOO Flex is designed for professional use, to work exclusively with TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), TPE (thermoplastic elastomer and TPC (thermoplastic copolyester) filaments. The part should be relatively easy to remove once it cools and the glue residue should also be easily cleaned off.

Some flexible filaments show lower adhesion to conventional 3D-printing build surfaces and a high tendency to warp. Others tend to stick too well to bare 3D printing surfaces such as glass and PEI. MAGIGOO Flex is a specialized solution for FDM printing of flexible filaments which was developed to work with a wide number of flexible filament types. MAGIGOO Flex acts as an intermediate layer between the build-plate and the printed part enabling good adhesion and facilitating print removal as required.

Magigoo HT (50ml)

MAGIGOO HT is designed for professional use, to work at high printing temperatures. The part should be relatively easy to remove once it cools and the glue residue should also be easily cleaned off.

High temperature filaments prove to be challenging materials for FDM printing due to their higher tendency to warp. These materials are generally printed at elevated temperatures owing to their high temperature properties. MAGIGOO HT is a specialized solution for FDM printing of PEEK filaments which was developed to work at elevated printing temperatures.

MAGIGOO HT has been designed and tested to work with build-plate temperature of 150 °C or lower.

Magigoo Metal (50ml)

MAGIGOO Metal is designed as a professional first layer adhesive with BASF Ultrafuse® 316L. Magigoo Metal is non-hazardous, non-flammable and also approved for use in post processing stages of BASF Ultrafuse® 316L. Magigoo Metal also enables easy part removal of the green parts from the build-plate.

Due to the thermoplastic nature of the filament binding materials and the differential thermal cooling during FDM printing, parts printed BASF Ultrafuse® 316L are susceptible to warp. Furthermore due to the delicate nature of the green part, care must be taken when removing parts printed in BASF Ultrafuse® 316L to avoid part deformation. Magigoo Metal provides sure and reliable adhesion during printing and enable the easy removal of the printed part through submersion in water, thus avoid potential damage to the green part.

How to Use Magigoo

How to Use Magigoo Adhesives

The Magigoo team has done a great deal of testing and has created some great documentation. Refer to the Magigoo Manual for detailed guidance. Also, refer to this database of all materials that have been tested by the Magigoo team, which includes detailed guidance for each material.

Basic Instructions:

  • Shake the bottle.
  • Apply to the desired area by pressing the nib on the bed (activating the inner valve) and spreading as needed.
  • Print according to the filament/printer manufacturers recommendations
  • Allow to cool and Remove. The print should pop right off
  • Clean - Use a damp cloth to wipe off (except for Magigoo PP - see instructions below)

When doing larger printer using materials that have a tendency to warp (i.e. ABS, nylon, polycarbonate, polypropylene, etc.), a 20 mm brim is recommended. In cases of excess adhesion, it is recommended to wet the print bed with a small amount of water and slowly work it below the part. This should make part removal easier.

Important Note: The Magigoo applicator has an active spring valve, which activates when applicator is pressed against the build plate. Please do not squeeze the bottle when the applicator is not activated. Otherwise, the applicator may pop off. Bottle may be slightly squeezed, only when the nib is pressed against the bed and it may be necessary only if a greater rate of flow is required. Bottle must not be squeezed when cap is off at any other time, as it may result in glue popping out of the bottle.

Cleaning Instructions for Magigoo PP: Use a wet hard sponge to remove all glue residue. Once the glue layer is wet, it will form a white layer which can be easily scrubbed off with an abrasive sponge. Once the layer is completely loose from the glass it can be wiped away with a wet cloth and finally cleaned with a dry paper towel.

Get the Quality Filament You Need

Nothing will impact your 3D printing results like the kind of filament you use. Good filament is highly consistent in diameter, is wound evenly onto the spool with just the right amount of tension, and will not tangle when being unwound. 3D Universe offers a wide range of high-quality filaments to choose from.
