Magnetic Flexible PEI Build Plates for Ultimaker 3D Printers offers two different printing experiences. One side is smooth, and the other side is textured. Provides great adhesion between PEI and printing models, a smooth or textured model surface, flexibility, and quick & easy removal of prints. Fully compatible with the active leveling system on Ultimaker printers.
Sizing and Compatibility
This build plate is 355mm x 275mm, compatible with the Ultimaker S5 and S5 Pro Bundle.
Installation Instructions:
We recommend installing the adhesive magnetic base on top of the glass build plate. This will provide a more level surface than the aluminum base plate. Because installing it in this manner will add several millimeters to the height of the bed, so a couple of adjustments will be needed before you get back to printing.
- Attach the adhesive magnetic base to the glass build plate.
- Place the magnetic PEI sheet on top of the magnetic base.
- Now you'll need to lower the bed platform by several millimeters to compensate for the increased thickness of the combined build plate. This is done using the three adjustment screws under the build plate (one at the rear and two at the front). Tight each thumb-screw as far as it will go (which will pull the build plate lower) and then unscrew each one about one full turn (to allow some room for adjustment).
- After this, you'll need to run the manual leveling procedure (tap the gear icon on the touch panel, then go to Maintenance > Build Plate > Manual Leveling, and follow the on-screen instructions).
After this, you should be ready to print with your new PEI build plate! You can choose to print on the textured side or the smooth side, depending on your preference. Using adhesive is not required, but it doesn't hurt to apply some Magigoo on the PEI surface just to make sure you have no adhesion issues, especially with larger prints and more challenging materials. PRO TIP:
Want to be able to switch easily between the original glass build plate and the PEI flexible build plate? You can order a custom aluminum sheet and attach the magnetic base to this instead of attaching it directly to your existing glass build plate. Doing this allows you to switch between the PEI flexible magnetic build plate and the standard glass build plate without any need to adjust leveling.
