Overview

Introducing 3D PotterBot Micro 10

The Potterbot Micro 10 is our entry level 3D ceramic printer and due to its affordable price and small build volume, it's the perfect entry-level 3D ceramic printer for the classroom environment, teaching institutions, ceramic venues, and individual artists interested in exploring new technology. It maintains all of the great features of our upper-level models, including the direct nozzle extrusion and our unique traveling X and Y bed.

3D Potterbot Micro 10 Comparisons

While our other 3D printers are designed to handle your larger projects, our 3D Potterbot Micro 10 is more affordable, and perfect for traveling and transporting from one location to another. The Micro 10 uses standard stepper motors, making it more adequate for the smaller build envelope, and the timing belts are designed to decrease printing time by as much as 75%, making it ideal for for your smaller items. The 10th generation has a new uniform nozzle design for improved performance, across all of our printers. This allows you to interchange nozzles between all of our 3D clay printers, from the Micro to the Scara V3.

How the 3D Potterbot Micro 10 Operates

Our 3D Potterbot Micro 10 printer is designed utilizing our traveling X, Y, and Z axis, allowing the X-axis to travel smoothly on top of any flat surface. Designed using high-precison linear rails from IGUS, with a precision timing belt and stepper motors, the Z axis and extruder are able to use a reduction gearbox for faster and smoother prints. Whether in the classroom or industrial environments, the robust, high-quality, aluminum anodized linear rails with advanced plastic car bushings and smooth surface will extend the service life of your Micro 10 3D printer.

What Makes our 3D Potterbot Micro 10 so User-friendly

Our 3D Potterbot Micro 10 printer features a build envelope of up to 1 foot and the 1000 ml direct nozzle extruder. The unique feature of our 3D ceramic printers is the direct extrusion of real clay. Other brands use a compressed air system printing slip (watered down clay or alcohol diluted clay). The advantage of direct extrusion is 3D printing full body clay, or other paste-like materials. All materials used to build our clay printers are food grade, so get creative. Users can load the extruder tubes from any standard pug mill, or our new wall-mounted hand loader, allowing you to load up to 5 tubes in less than 10 minutes, and providing you the capability to load 60 lbs of clay. The tubes can be loaded manually, as well, using clay purchased from any ceramic supplier. Even at larger scales, the Micro 10 produces superior quality prints with less air bubbles and in less time, and at the highest printing speeds available in a machine this size.

3D Potterbot Micro 10 Printer Features

We are always striving to improve our designs, and our 10th generation is no exception. Loaded with features and options, our 3D Potterbot Micro 10 stand-alone printer provides users with effortless operation capabilities. All you need is a simple SD card inserted with the G code in order to run your prints. Easily adjustable speeds and flows on the touch-screen give users complete control over the printer and extruder, and the interface allows you full control over every setting of the machine. The 10th generation brings a new wireless feature with a full web interface controlled over WiFi. You can now control and upload files to the printer from multiple devices simultaneously. The touch-screen is an integral part of our Arm core processor and main controller board.

Helpful Resources

The Pugmill

The easiest way to load extruder tubes is with a pugill. For best results, a de-airing pug mill and a double auger will give you better performance than a single auger.

Although a single auger is adequate, the consistency of the clay is more critical when it comes to loading the tubes. The consistency of the clay should be similar to standard throwing clay, but wetter. This can be accomplished by running the clay through the pug mill and adding a small quantity of water. If too much water is added to the clay the pug mill can actually not function sufficiently enough to load the tubes. This happens because the auger has no traction against the side of the pug mill as the clay mixture becomes too loose. It also depends on the pug mill and its ability to forcefully push the clay. It is necessary to have an adaptor for the nozzle of the pug mill to attach the polycarbonate tube for loading.

Recommended De-airing Pugmills

The Peter Pugger VPM-9 and VPM-20 series, which are ready-to-use with the 3D Potter machines with their existing pugmill adapter are a great option for your needs.

Loading By Hand

Using a 25 lb. bag of prepared clay, cut the clay into 4 pieces and put a microfiber towel in between the 4 pieces. Add 15 ounces of water to the bag, close the bag and make it airtight. Wait until the water has penetrated the clay, approximately one to two days. Now using the moist clay roll it into a cylinder a little bit smaller than the inside of the tube you are loading.

Put the nozzle on the tube with tape over the end and gently tap the clay into the tube. Make sure to tap the tube and nozzle on a soft surface. This is the best method to load your tubes without a pug mill.

Wall Mount Clay Extruder

We now offer an easy way of handloading tubes without the added expense of purchasing a large pug mill. Although a de-airing pug mill is by far the best way to load the tubes, this wall-mounted loader is a very good second choice.
