The new Dremel LC40 is capable of cutting, etching, scoring, and engraving your most intricate designs. The potential applications are numerous, as the LC40 works with a wide array of materials, including acrylic, paper, leather, wood, stone, and glass. See our materials page for some options to get you started, designed to fit perfectly in the LC40's 20 x 12 inch work area.
IMPORTANT: The LC40 is not intended for cutting metal
The LC40 is capable of engraving anodized aluminum. Otherwise, the LC40 is not capable of cutting or engraving metal, and Dremel strongly urges people to avoid attempting to do so, as it would present a significant safety risk.
WARNING: Never use a laser cutter to cut vinyl or PVC!
Cutting vinyl or PVC on a laser cutter produces hydrogen chloride gas, which is extremely toxic. This in turn produces hydrochloric acid, which will also cause significant damage to the laser cutter. For more details, see this article.
Check out our video overview for a closer look at some of the unique hardware and software features the Dremel LC40 has to offer.Key features include:
The Dremel LC40’s external footprint is 32 x 20 x 8.25 inches, making it suitable for most offices or workspaces. The actual cutting area is a substantial 20 x 12 inches (508 mm x 304.8 mm), and with its 40 watt CO2 laser, the cutting depth is up to ¼ inch / 6 mm deep for wood or acrylic. The unit has a rugged exterior, weighing-in at roughly 70 lbs.
Dremel has gone to great lengths to ensure their LC40 meets the strictest safety standards. Not only has the LC40 been drop-tested, it’s the only UL-certified desktop laser cutter you’ll find at its price point. This qualification alone makes the LC40 an excellent fit for schools and libraries.
The Dremel LC40 is protected by an array of built-in SMART sensors that proactively scan for hazardous scenarios and provide troubleshooting guidance. Combined with the LC40’s built-in venting system, the optional BOFA air filtration unit ensures each unit’s operating environment remains safe, and free of noxious fumes or airborne particulate matter.
Both the LC40’s hardware and software appear to be robust and well-designed, as one would expect for an item with a $6,000 price tag. The exclusive Dremel DigiLab Suite includes out-of-the-box tutorials to make set up quick and painless. The LC40’s browser-based software is hosted from the unit itself and works through Wifi or Ethernet on Windows, Mac and Linux.
The process of positioning graphics over materials is straightforward and intuitive. Using the LC40’s onboard camera, the software allows users to position their graphic over a live view of the chamber - it’s truly a point and click experience. Selecting materials is easy, as the LC40 comes loaded with numerous material profiles. The LC40 also has a built-in 7-inch LCD display for monitoring and managing jobs.
Keeping the LC40 running promises to be easy, as the 40 watt laser can be swapped out with minimal effort or technical know-how. Also, the Dremel LC40 comes with a 1-year warranty, covering the machine end-to-end. And, since Dremel’s US-based team provides lifetime support, owners can get the assistance they need to ensure maximum longevity of their investment.

The Dremel® DigiLab Laser Cutter was honored with being named Best of Show at ISTE 2019. The judging panel for the awards included educators who scoured the exhibit hall floor during the conference in Philadelphia this past June. The judges rated individual products and evaluated areas such as quality and effectiveness, ease of use, cost and creative use of technology.
The Dremel Idea Builder 3D45 has a lot to offer. In this video review, we'll show you the hardware features and give you a tour of the Dremel Print Cloud solution, which is included with your printer purchase. This solution makes it easy to manage one or more Dremel printers and offers a lot of nice features, especially for multi-user environments.
The Dremel 3D45 is capable of printing at 50 micron resolution. With a heated bed, this printer can use PLA, Eco-ABS, Nylon, and more. This is a perfect option for makerspaces - units can be easily networked and stacked. The included Dremel Print Cloud software (based on 3DPrinterOS) makes it easy to centrally manage your printers and print jobs. An integrated carbon filter protects your environment from harmful VOC's.
The onboard HD camera makes it easy to remotely monitor your prints. The live feed can be viewed using Dremel Print Cloud, which can be accessed from anywhere, including using mobile devices. That means you can keep an eye on your prints no matter where you are.
Dremel material spools are RFID enabled, so the printer can automatically detect the type of material being used. The printer can also track how much material is left on the spool. The extruder has an integrated sensor that will detect when your material runs out and will automatically pause your print job so you can load a new spool.
The 3D45 offers assisted leveling, making it easy to level the print bed. Sensors will automatically detect the bed position and the printer will tell you which way to adjust the leveling knobs. This makes the leveling process much easier than most printers. You just follow the instructions on the touchscreen display, and you'll have the bed leveled in no time.
Dremel Print Cloud, powered by 3DPrinterOS, provides centralized management for all of your Dremel 3D printers and print jobs. Dremel Print Cloud allows you to upload your STL files, position your models on the build plate, slice the print jobs, queue multiple jobs for any individual printer, and monitor your print jobs. Because slicing happens on Dremel's server farm, it's lightning fast. The Dremel Print Cloud dashboard gives you immediate access to historical print job information and statistics.
The beautiful 5-inch IPS Touch Screen makes it easy to control your 3D45. Instructions are clearly presented on the high resolution color screen. All of the functions you need to manage the printer and your print jobs are available at your fingertips.

Nothing will impact your 3D printing results like the kind of filament you use. Good filament is highly consistent in diameter, is wound evenly onto the spool with just the right amount of tension, and will not tangle when being unwound. 3D Universe offers a wide range of high-quality filaments to choose from. We provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all filament we sell. If you have any problems, just send back the unused portion of the spool for a full refund. Check out our filament collection...
